Supporting BBC Scam Safe Week 2024: Protect your business from fraud
Fraud is an ever-evolving threat, impacting businesses and individuals alike. But with heightened awareness and the right tools, we can all be better equipped to protect ourselves.
From 23 to 29 November 2024, the BBC is running its annual Scam Safe Week campaign.
This year, we’re again proud to join them in raising awareness and providing practical advice to help businesses and individuals avoid falling victim to fraud.
BBC’s essential Scam Safe advice
The BBC’s Scam Safe campaign provides clear, actionable advice to keep your personal and business finances safe:
1) If it’s out of the blue – check it’s for you. If you receive a call, email or text you’re not expecting, proceed with caution. It’s always safer to end the conversation, look up the organisation’s contact details and get back in touch yourself.
2) Get a second opinion. Ask someone you trust to take a look before giving away any details or paying any money. Scammers will pressure you to make immediate decisions, real organisations will always let you double check.
3) Contact your bank. If you think you’ve been scammed, simply dial 159 to be put through to your bank’s fraud department. Tide members can also tap ‘Support’ > ‘Report fraud’ in their Tide app. Both options are available 24/7.
4) Share your story. Talking about your experiences with friends and family helps them stay Scam Safe. Reporting any scam attempt helps authorities fight fraud. Forward any suspicious texts to 7726, or emails to report@phishing.gov.uk (from this doc: Be Scam Safe Social Media
