Our credit team are the builders behind our credit features, working closely with our Plus and Premium plan, providing a credit line along with Flexible Balance. We’d love for you to meet the people behind the credit team– so first up, here’s Amit, VP of Credit Services.
👋 Hi Amit! Introduce yourself in a sentence.
Hi, I’m Amit and I manage Credit Services at Tide. I’m originally from Israel and moved to London eight years ago with my wife and cat. 🐈
What’s your background?
I studied Political Science, Philosophy and Economics in Israel and then at LSE, so I’m interested in both Economics and Philosophy (especially Game Theory, Political Philosophy and Ethics).
I’ve been working in SME Finance for 12 years now in Risk and Product Management, both in the public and private sector. I’ve enjoyed working in Israel, Germany, Poland and the UK.
How did you cross paths with Tide?
I was consulting at a company in Germany where I met Oliver, our CEO at Tide. He later asked me to consult at Tide on the Credit Strategy. When the project was completed, he asked if I wanted to join the company full time.
It would have been nice to know that I’d be executing the project before I wrote a very ambitious strategy… 😅
What’s your favourite Tide memory so far?
I really enjoyed seeing our first borrower, it was great to see our work coming to fruition delivering value to our customers from scratch. It was even better to see the first repayment though.
What’s your favourite Tide feature?
I’m a bit biased of course, but I’m very proud of our work on the Flexible Balance feature we combined with our memberships plans.
What’s the most interesting challenge you’ve come across since you joined Tide?
To deliver our first credit service fast we needed to find ways to build in two months what some credit companies spend years working on. Obviously we started with a minimum viable proposition which we’re still improving, but it was challenging to find ways of delivering a credit product so quickly and then seek customer validation.
What are you most excited about this year at Tide
I’m excited to see how we start exploring internationalisation. I think building domestic services is one thing, but serving customers across the globe is in a different ballpark altogether.
Can you describe your team in three words?
Plan, execute, learn
During the coronavirus outbreak, we Tideans have been working remotely. Have you learned anything interesting about yourself from working in isolation?
Sure did! A couple of things of note is that I take more pictures of my cat than I do of my wife and that I really enjoy avoiding the commute to work.
Furthermore, seeing what’s happening to local businesses around me has reinforced the worth of what we do to help small businesses at Tide and my team’s work to provide credit services.
What’s your hidden talent?
Managing my Fantasy NBA team. The amount of data analysis I do for my NBA Fantasy team is about 10x the analysis needed of me at Tide.
When you’re not at Tide, what’s your favourite thing to do?
I love travelling, planning travelling and talking about past travelling. I also enjoy sports such as basketball, squash, football ️⚽️ and rock climbing 🧗
