Meet Deane, our VP of Payments
Working together with all the teams across Tide, the Product team works hard to bring new features to our members. We’d love for you to meet the people that make the Product team – here’s Deane.
👋 Hey Deane! Introduce yourself in a sentence.
Hey! I’m Deane, the VP of Payments here at Tide.
I’m from Dublin, Ireland. After leaving university where I studied Economics, I worked as a consultant for three years in Ireland, the UK, and Indonesia before joining Tide as a Product Manager.
How did you cross paths with Tide?
I was interested in Fintech and was keeping track of all the banking challengers that were emerging. I listened to a podcast where George Bevis, Tide’s Founder, discussed how poorly SMEs are served by high street banks and how Tide would solve this issue. I thought everything he said made a lot of sense and the opportunity seemed huge – so I applied!
What’s your typical working day?
I start at 9 and begin the day by joining the payments tech team standup. After that it varies, however my time is usually spent between managing aspects of development projects, operational projects, analysis, and long term planning.
What’s the most interesting challenge you’ve come across since you joined Tide?
Getting my head around how it all works! Our own infrastructure, the payments infrastructure that underpins our product, and everything else that goes into making Tide work each day. It’s taken me well over a year!
You were one of Tide’s first employees – what’s your best memory so far?
When we reached 10,000 members 🙌
The company was still pretty small at the time – this really made it clear that members not only liked, but relied on the product. It’s great to feel that you’re working on something that’s important and useful to others.
What’s your hidden talent?
I regularly get sunburnt while sitting in the shade 🔥
When you’re not at Tide, what’s your favourite thing to do?
It varies! For the past few months it was reading – because the days were so short!
