Meet Felicity, Product Owner, Credit Services
At Tide, we’re proud that our people can learn and develop in their careers with us. Whether you decide to stick with one team or move around the business, there are opportunities for all Tideans. In this post, you’ll meet inspiring Tidean Felicity, who’s been with us in various roles for three years.
👋Hey, Felicity! Introduce yourself in a sentence.
Hi! I’m originally from Sydney, and moved to London almost four years ago with the aspirations to travel and work for two years before returning home. However, it’s been more of an adventure than I could ever have imagined.
Now that you’ve been at Tide for three years, how have things changed?
Naturally, it’s changed a lot. I started my journey as the first customer service agent for Tide when the company was 30 people. I jumped right in, replying to members queries while learning how banking worked in the UK. It was an incredibly rewarding job.
Over the years as the number of members grew and grew, so did our team. We now have an incredible Member Support team in Sofia, and I was lucky enough to train a fair few of them.
Now I’m a Product Owner in the Credit team and there are now over 300 Tideans. That’s a lot more names to learn! Luckily Tide is still the same friendly place that you can introduce yourself to anyone, just like I did in 2017.
You’ve seen many features being built, which one were you most excited about?
A popular request from members has always been, “Can I use Apple Pay with Tide?” I remember often asking our Product Owners when they thought it would be ready. It’s been really exciting to see our Payments team build this functionality. I can happily say I never carry around a wallet because I can pay using my Tide card. 💳
How would you describe your journey at Tide in three words?
Unexpected, grateful, challenging
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
I love a list. I refocus by giving myself a few minutes to note everything down. If that doesn’t work, I need a killer playlist! On Spotify, I crank up House Focus, Deep Focus, All–Nighter – whatever is intense enough to get me through.
What new skill have you developed during the pandemic lockdown?
I am learning to program in Python!
How do you turn things around when you’re having a bad day?
Grabbing a flat white, any time of the day. It might be the walk to get the coffee or the coffee itself – either way it helps me feel so much better ☕
What’s something you saw recently at Tide that made you smile?
Since self-isolating, every evening I have a debrief by video call with my work friends about the peaks and pits of the day. It reminds me that everyone is finding this hard, and your pit can really make someone else laugh.
If you could only have three apps on your smartphone, which would you pick?
Only three?! Whatsapp, Instagram, TikTok
Which emoji do you use the most?
What advice would you give someone who wants to switch careers or learn new skills?
If someone was to tell me three years ago this is where I’d be, I don’t know if I’d believe them. However these are the things I’ve learned so far from switching from Customer Service to Product:
- Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you
They’ll support, motivate and push you to be your best.
- Be prepared to make mistakes
But most importantly learn from them. I’m still learning this one.
- Say yes to every opportunity
This can be exhausting, but I’m confident you’ll learn something new.
