Meet Harry, our Agile Coach
Our Agile team is here to increase efficiency across our Product and Tech departments. Using the Agile methodology and practices, the team continuously improves the way we utilise technology at Tide. We’d love for you to get to know them, so here’s Harry…
👋Hey Harry! Introduce yourself in a sentence
I’m Harry, I coach teams in Agile values and principles to help our Tideans work more effectively together.
What’s your background?
My career really began to pick up speed when I joined IBM as an apprentice (yay, no student debt). I jumped head-first into everything Agile after being placed into the role of Scrum Master.
What made you want to join Tide?
I’ve always been interested in Fintechs. Being part of a startup which is helping to define the future of banking, and working on Tide’s mission to give SME’s back their time, is a unique opportunity which means a lot to me.
From an Agile perspective, Tide is young and hungry to be the best. Where I come from, working with more traditional organisations, you tend to find a resistance to change – but not here, everybody is motivated to experiment, learn and adapt… this attitude is all an Agile Coach could ask for.
It’s important that everyone at Tide works in an agile way – how do you contribute to this?
People get Agile confused all the time. At its heart Agile is a philosophy, a way of thinking and behaving to harness the power of change – I contribute by helping others understand that we don’t do Agile, we are Agile! This shifts an organisation from relying on process, to relying on empowered and motivated individuals with a culture of continuous improvement to deliver great products.
What’s the most interesting challenge you’ve come across since joining Tide?
Right now, it’s the huge amount of change happening everywhere! We’re scaling which, can be chaotic, finding effective ways for many teams to collaborate at scale together is never easy.
We’re lucky that we have such dedicated teams who are passionate about maintaining our mission.
What are you looking forward to most this year?
For Tide it’s got to be the upcoming Payroll functionality, I’m part of the team working on this and it’s going to be a really valuable offering for our members. Seeing it come to life since I’ve joined Tide has been really cool.
Personally I’m looking forward to Christmas, it’s a great excuse for excessive eating and drinking! 🎄🍺🌰
What is your Monday motivation?
Being an Agile Coach is really rewarding. The feeling I get when helping somebody overcome the challenges they are struggling with gets me out of bed.
What is your hidden talent?
Probably my ability to make friends with other people’s pets – I’ll make you jealous as I convince your dog that I’m it’s new owner and best friend 🐕
When you’re not at Tide, what’s your favourite thing to do?
Football! ⚽ When I moved to London I got back into the sport, I play 3 times a week and I feel fitter than ever. I’m also playing in Tide’s Fintech League!
