Meet Jack, our Transaction Monitoring Analyst
The Financial Crime team works to protect Tide members from criminals and ensure that criminals don’t use Tide! We’d love for you to meet the people behind the Financial Crime team – here’s Jack.
👋 Hey Jack! Introduce yourself in a sentence.
Hey! I’m Jack and I’m a Transaction Monitoring Analyst here at Tide. I’m responsible for identifying criminal activity and ensuring a safe environment for our members.
What’s your background?
I grew up in Reading and studied Economics at university in Bristol. Before getting my foot on the career ladder here in the UK, I spent 3 incredible months working as a business consultant in Ghana for a sustainability start up. After that, I secured my first job back in Reading, working client side for a fintech company in the financial advisory industry, before joining Tide in early 2019!
What made you want to join Tide?
My extended study into digital currencies taught me about the positive impact technology brings to the financial sector. This is what initially inspired me to go on and pursue a career in the fintech space.
I also experienced first-hand the difficulties that small businesses face in the search for simple yet effective banking during my time in Ghana. Tide’s focus on small business banking is what really drew me towards the company.
What’s your typical working day:
After making it into the office in one piece after my cycle 🚴♂️, I set a plan for the day ahead whilst eating as much cereal as possible from Tide’s selection (it’s vast! 😋). My role involves monitoring and investigating suspicious activity across all Tide accounts, so this forms the bulk of my day. We’re currently recruiting for more analysts to join our Sofia team, so I’m also involved in the interview process for that.
What’s your favourite Tide feature?
I recently helped a family member with some theatrical make-up modelling for a cosmetics business called MUD – Tide’s invoice template was perfect for this and my invoice was sent within 5 minutes!
This feature just shows how Tide saves small business owners time and enables them to focus on the more important things.
What’s the most interesting challenge you’ve came across since you joined Tide?
It’s fast paced here, so each day brings a fresh challenge.
I’m responsible for identifying suspicious behaviour on our members’ accounts and, given the wide range of businesses who are banking with us, no two investigations are the same. It is therefore crucial that I’m thorough in every investigation, distinguishing the legitimate from the illegitimate activity, which can prove to be a challenge, albeit an interesting one!
What are you most looking forward to this year?
Professionally? Tide is growing at a crazy pace. I’m lucky enough to have joined Tide whilst still in its early stages, so watching the company grow around me will be fun!
Personally? I’m heading to Wimbledon next week! #comeonAndy 🎾
What’s your hidden talent?
I can play the drums in 8 different styles 🥁
When you’re not at Tide, what’s your favourite thing to do?
I like to keep active when I’m not at work, so I’m usually playing football, tennis or feeling the burn at a gym class.
