An important update about older versions of iOS and Android

Hello Members,

To help maintain the quality of the Tide experience across devices and help us roll new features out faster, we are planning to remove support for old operating systems and iPhone 4s devices in the next two months. The change applies to:

  • iOS 8 & 9
  • Android operating systems older than 5.0.0

Will I need to do anything? If your devices uses one of these operating systems, you will need to update to a more recent version (iOS 10 or Android 5.0.0) to continue using Tide. If you are affected by this change, we’ll be contacting you individually over the coming weeks. We understand that this will be an inconvenience for some members, so we wanted to take the time to fully explain why we are making this change.

What does this change for you? We always want to give our members the best possible experience when using Tide and we unfortunately can’t longer do that on these old operating systems. They make it increasingly difficult to maintain a Tide experience that’s consistent and as good as we’d want, across devices. As newer versions of operating systems become available, it also becomes harder to maintain support for older operating systems. So ceasing support for older operating systems will help us build new features faster while developing a good user experience that is consistent across phones.

Who is affected? The vast majority of our members are already using a supported operating system - and will therefore be unaffected by these changes. Only 2.3% of our members with Apple phones are on iOS 8 and 9. Just over 3% of our Android-using members are on an operating system older than 5.0.0.

We appreciate that for some members this decision requires some adjustments. Therefore, we’ll only implement these changes on Monday 19th March, giving you the opportunity to update your system or change your device. You might have noticed that we’ve moved our deadline slightly: this is because of a requirement recently introduced by Apple which takes effect from April.
