How to build your website with Own Website

This guide shows you how to:

  • Access the Website Builder

  • Create your website's pages and folders

  • Add code, embed and manage widgets

  • Add sections and rearrange content

  • Remove widgets and content

Access the Own Website tool

In your app

  1. Tap the Profile icon > Profile & Settings > Membership

  2. Then scroll down to Own Website

  3. Tap Manage > Go to Website Builder

On Tide on the web

  1. Click on Startup hub

  2. Then Go to Website Builder

How to use the top bar of the Own Website Tool

Everything you need to build, manage, and launch your website is right at your fingertips.

See key navigations in the top bar

  • Main menu: Switch to other tabs or access Site Settings

  • Add content: Add sections or widgets by choosing from layout options

  • Design: Select a preset style or customise your site’s colours and fonts

  • Pages tab: Manage your pages - add, delete, or edit settings, and add custom scripts

  • Preview: See how your site looks on a computer or mobile device before publishing

  • Publish: Confirm and push any changes to your website

Create your website's pages and folders

Add a page

A page is just a part of your website with its own content and link – for example, your homepage, contact page, or menu page.

  1. Go to the Pages Panel > click the Red '+' button

  2. Click Select New Page > Enter title > Done

Cloning is useful when you want to build a similar page without starting from scratch.

  1. Click the Ellipsis icon (︙) next to the page

  2. Select Clone Page

A folder is where you keep related pages together, helping everything on your website stay organised.

  1. Go to the Pages Panel > click the Red '+' button

  2. Select New Folder > Enter title > Done

Folders will appear in the navigation menu of your website.

Add sections to your website

A section is a pre-designed row that holds content like text and images, making it easy to build and structure your page without starting from scratch.

  1. Go to the Add Content tab and select Add Content from the drop-down menu

  2. Choose one of the green highlighted rows where you want to add the section

  3. On the left, select a content category

  4. Pick the section you want and you'll see it in the selected row

Add widgets to your website

Add widgets to your website

Widgets are individual elements like calendars, search bars, or live chat tools. You can simply drag and drop them onto your pages.

  1. Click Add content at the top

  2. Select Add widget from the drop-down menu, and you'll see the widgets panel on the left

  3. Browse the widgets

  4. Drag and drop your selected widget onto the page, and green overlays will show where the widget can be placed

Edit a widget

Click on the widget on your page to open the settings panel.

Embed a widget

An embed widget lets you add content from other platforms, like YouTube videos or Google Maps, directly onto your page by pasting a link or embed code. To add an embed widget, click on:

  1. Add Content at the top

  2. Then click Embed and drag your widget to the page

  3. Click to edit the code and paste the new one

  4. Save and it's done

Add site-wide code

Site-wide code is code that runs on every page of your website, like Google Analytics tracking or a live chat widget.

  1. Go to the Pages Panel > Site Scripts

  2. Choose Head Scripts or Body Scripts > Paste code > Save

Add page-specific code

Page-specific code only runs on one particular page - for example, a custom script for a contact form on your Contact page.

  1. Go to the Pages Panel > click Ellipsis icon (︙) > Edit Page Scripts

  2. Choose Head Scripts or Body Scripts > Paste code > Save

Rearrange the content

You can easily move sections or widgets to change how they're laid out.

Move a section

  1. Click the 'arrow' icons to the right of the section

  2. Click the up arrow to move the section higher, or the down arrow to move it lower

You can’t move sections above the header or below the footer.

  1. Hover over the widget and click the green handlebar

  2. Drag the widget to your new position and release it

Remove unwanted sections or widgets easily

Delete a section

  1. Hover over a section until the bin icon appears on the right-hand side

  2. Click the bin icon to delete it. You will need to confirm first, as this action cannot be undone

Add your required legal and policy pages

Add your required legal and policy pages

Before you launch your website — especially if you're taking payments or collecting customer data — make sure your legal pages are in place.

This is a legal requirement for UK businesses.

You are responsible for the content of these pages. Tide does not provide legal templates — consider using a legal professional or an online policy generator to draft your content.

Add your policy pages

Your Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Legal Policy, and Accessibility Policy are managed through Site Settings:

  1. Go to Main Menu > Site Settings > Privacy options

  2. Enable the pages you need and complete all the fields

Add your Terms and Conditions

  1. Go to Pages panel > T&C page

  2. Add and edit your Terms and Conditions directly

Use this page to include your returns policy, cancellation terms, and key business information (legal name, address, company number, VAT number).
