It helps prevent sending money to the wrong person and protects against fraud. You'll see this check before the payment is processed to give you more confidence in who you're paying. Regulatory requirements for VoP in the EU/EEA are being phased in from October 2025 for instant and SEPA transfers, aligned with the European Central Bank (ECB) and European Payments Council (EPC) and Tide is complying with those regulations ensuring a more secure environment.
