Meet Dimitrios our Support Engineer

We’d love for you to meet the people that make the Support Engineering team –  they’re the first responders to any technical issue discovered at Tide. So first up, here’s Dimitrios!

👋 Hey Dimitrios! Introduce yourself in a sentence.

Hello! I’m Dimitrios and I support our production environments by analysing, diagnosing as well as understanding and creatively solving problems for our members.

What’s your background?

I studied Mathematics and then did an MSc in Computer Science and Engineering, with expertise in Biomedical Engineering and Machine Learning tools and techniques.

How did you cross paths with Tide?

It was a nice evening after work, walking in the park with my dog 🐶 when I got a phone call from Tide asking if I was available for new challenges supporting production systems. Without any hesitation, I knew this would be a great journey for me!

What’s your typical working day?

Providing technical support to our Member Support, KYC and Financial Crime Teams. Also, assigning and escalating special tasks to our Developers to solve/fix/improve the app based on feedback from our members.

What’s your favourite Tide feature?

I love all our features as they’re all unique in their own way. If I had to choose one, it would be our Xero bank feed integration. One of our favourite sayings here at Tide is Do less banking, and with accounting always being so time consuming, working on features that optimise this process is very fulfilling.

What’s the most interesting challenge you’ve come across since you joined Tide?

Every day can become very challenging because each member uses the Tide app in different ways. So, trying to understand and replicate the members’ experience, developing workarounds and fixes for any problems is part of my daily routine.

Most unexpected issue raised by a member?

One of my first cases was a member trying to activate their card unsuccessfully. I spent quite a while checking whether or not this was an issue on our end when I realised that they were trying to activate it by tapping it like a contactless card on their phone!

What’s your hidden talent?

Cooking and baking 👨‍🍳

When you’re not at Tide, what’s your favourite thing to do?

I’m still interested and active in academic research and publication. I spend the rest of my free time with my friends, playing board games, watching movies and going for nice long walks.
