Pay at Pump

What merchant holds can I expect at the pump?

Merchants hold different amounts, depending on the retailer's requirement, to make sure your account has enough money to cover the cost of the petrol.

Maximum pending charges can vary depending on where you buy fuel, but here are the most common examples:

  • Sainsbury’s (up to £100)

  • Morrisons (up to £100)

  • Asda (up to £99)

If you have less than what the fuel station requires:

You'll still be able to use Pay at Pump.

We'll check how much money is available in your balance and communicate this to the pump. This will help determine how much you can spend on fuel. For example, if you have £40 in your account, you can purchase fuel for a maximum of £40.

If this happens, we’ll temporarily hold the full amount that's in your account. Once you’ve paid for your fuel, any extra money that were held, will be released back to you shortly.

This process is called 'partial authorisation' and all merchants should accept it – though keep in mind that some may not.
