Send a payment through CHAPS

Send a payment through CHAPS

You can send a CHAPS payment the same way you’d make any transfer from your Tide account.

  • If you're sending up to £250,000, both CHAPS and Faster Payments (FPS) will appear as options. FPS is the default, as it’s lower-cost (20p per transfer) and near-instant. If you'd prefer CHAPS, you can switch to it during the payment flow

  • If you're sending more than £250,000, CHAPS will automatically be selected as the only available option

💡Quick tips

Use CHAPS if you're sending a UK, high-value payment and need it settled quickly – on the same working day.

Use Faster Payments (FPS) for low or regular-value payments, that you want to arrive instantly – at any time, day or night.

CHAPS payment returned to the sender? Here's why:

CHAPS payment returned to the sender? Here's why:

CHAPS payments must include your exact account details, exactly as shown in your Tide app:

  • For International SWIFT payments (settled by CHAPS in the UK), that’s your full name and IBAN

  • For domestic CHAPS payments, it's your full name, sort code and account number

Payments with missing or incorrect details – for example, using a generic bank code instead of your Tide sort code – will be rejected and returned by our banking partner. We cant amend these payments. If yours was returned, please ask the sender to re-send it with the correct details.
