How to make and manage sales with Tap to Pay

Using your iPhone or Android, you can take contactless card payments from your customers in a single tap.

This guide shows you how it works.

Sign up for Tap to Pay

  1. Tap Payments and go to Get Paid

  2. Choose Tap to Pay

  3. Read and agree to the terms and conditions

  4. Choose Sign Up for Tap to Pay

Take customers' payments

Take customers' payments

  1. Tap Payments, go to Get Paid, and tap Tap to Pay

  2. Enter the amount. This can be between £1 and £5,000, and you can accept GBP, EUR and USD

  3. Add a description

  4. Choose Take a payment and present your phone to the customer

  5. Your customer holds their card or device flat against the back of your phone, over the contactless symbol, for a few seconds

  6. When you see the 'done' checkmark, the transaction is complete. If the payment fails, you’ll see an error screen and can retry or change the amount

Tap to Pay works with all major card types, such as Mastercard, Visa and American Express.

Trouble taking payments with iPhone?

Tap to Pay is available on iPhone XS or later. If your device has enabled developer mode, it won't be able to use Tap to Pay. Just disable developer mode and restart your device to fix this.

Trouble taking payments with Android?

Ensure you're using an Android phone with Android 9 or above, and that you have NFC turned on your device.

To switch on NFC:

  1. Tap Settings > Connections

  2. Connected devices or Network & internet

  3. Open NFC (often under Connection preferences) > switch it on

Share a receipt

When a payment is successful, you'll see a share receipt icon in the app.

Tap it to share by text message, email, Instagram or WhatsApp - or tap Copy Link to paste it anywhere else.

Make a refund

  1. Tap Sales > Activity > Settlements

  2. Select the transaction and tap Refund This Payment

  3. This will be processed in 5 - 7 business days
