Add your Tide Card to Google Pay

Set up your Tide Card with Google Pay and start making quick, secure payments with only your Android device in stores, apps and online. It works with any merchant what accepts contactless payments anywhere.

Stay on this page and learn:

  • How Google Pay keeps your payments secure and private

  • How to add or remove your card, the requirements and compatible devices

  • Where you can use Google Pay, including abroad

  • Common issues, error messages, and how to troubleshoot

Google Pay is secure

Google Pay is secure

When you tap your Tide card via the Google Wallet on your device, the Google Pay system uses a number and transaction code unique to your device. Your card number is never stored on your device or Google’s servers, and never shared with a third party.

Your purchases are private too, because Google doesn’t keep transaction information. Any transaction information you do see on your mobile device or in your Tide app is not stored on Google servers.

After adding your Tide card to Google Pay, you should protect your mobile device, in the same way you would protect your Tide card.

Any Android device on version 9.0 or higher, that has near field communication or ‘NFC’ technology, is compatible with Google Pay. To see if yours is too, check out the full list from Google Play.

  2. Open your Tide app and tap: Payments > Cards > select the card > Add to Google Wallet

  3. Tide will automatically send your account details to Google Pay to be verified – no need to enter those manually

Your Team Members can set up their Expense Cards with Google Pay the same way.

Google Pay fees and limits

Google Pay fees and limits

Fees

  • Google Pay is free to set up and use. However, our usual fees apply depending on your Tide plan, when you're paying with your Tide card, including through a digital wallet

Spending limits

  • There’s usually no limit, but some merchants may have their own cap for contactless payments

  • These limits may apply to all types of payments you make with your digital wallet – online, in-store or in any apps you're using

If your Tide card is lost, stolen or frozen

If your Tide card is lost, stolen or frozen

Lost or stolen card

  • If you lose your card or it gets stolen, tap the Support icon in the upper-right of your Tide to let us know immediately. We'll send you a new one, and allow you to continue using Google Pay meanwhile. When you receive and activate your new card, the details in your Google Wallet will update automatically

  • If you cancel your card and order a new one later, replace an online card, or one that’s ‘Lost’ or ‘Stolen’ – you’ll need to manually update your subscription billing details

  • If you upgrade your Tide plan and receive a black card, or request a new card for any other reason – your subscriptions will be automatically updated with Mastercard's 'Automatic Billing Updater'

If you've frozen your card

If you've frozen your card

  • If you freeze your Tide card, you won’t be able to use it to pay by Google Pay on any of your devices

  • When you unfreeze it, you’ll be able to use it with the digital wallet again – just like before.

Troubleshooting

If you see one of these errors when adding your card to Google Pay, here’s how to fix it:

‘This card was already added’

If you’ve added and removed your Tide card from Google Wallet multiple times, Google may block the action temporarily. Just wait 24 hours before trying again.

Make sure you add your Tide card directly through the Tide app.

Error codes ‘OR-RWE-03’ or ‘OR-TAPSH-08’

These errors usually point to an issue with your Google account.

You will need to contact Google Pay Help directly to solve the issue, before you can try adding your Tide card again.

'This card can’t be set up for pay contactless / Your bank doesn’t support pay contactless with your phone using this card. Contact your bank for more info or add another card.'

This error may be due to an address mismatch. Check that your Google Wallet and Tide app addresses match, then try again.

To update your details, go to the Google Payments Centre in Chrome > Addresses.

If sync is on, changes will update across your devices automatically.
