Set up and make sales with your Tide Card Reader

Your Tide Card Reader lets you and your team members collect payments directly from your customers.

Getting set up is quick and easy. Follow our simple steps to connect your device and start getting paid.

Set up your card reader

Get your card reader connected

  1. Remove the sleeve and check that the box is unopened. Open it and make sure the serial number on the device matches the box label

  2. Plug in the card reader, then press and hold the power button until the display comes on. Charge the device for a minimum of 4 hours

  3. You’ll need the following passcodes to access admin features: 0000 for Settings menu, 2604 for Transactions menu.

  4. Go to Setup Wi-Fi. Select + and turn on the WLAN switch. Select your network or press + to add one manually

  5. Allow any software updates to complete and that’s it - you’re ready to take card payments!

Your card reader has a built-in SIM and will switch to mobile data (3G/4G) if WiFi isn’t available.

Set up tips

You can collect tips from your customers when taking a payment. The tipping functionality works through the Tide POS app.

  • If you have a Tide Card Reader Plus (Model S1F2, the one with the receipt print functionality) you might not have the Tide POS app already installed. Just turn on the card reader and install the app when prompted to start collecting tips.

  • If you have a Tide Card Reader (Model AMS1, the one without the receipt print functionality), then the app is already installed. just make sure it's updated to version 1.5.0 and you can start collecting tips.

Set your tipping percentage

Your card reader default tipping functionality is set up to offer a tipping percentage of 5%, 10% and 12%  You can customise these amounts:

  1. Tap More > Manage > Tipping

  2. Add the % amounts you want to offer

  2. Toggle off Collect Tips

Take card payments

  1. Open the Tide POS app on your card reader and enter the amount you want to collect from your customer

  2. If tips are activated, you'll see your set tip percentages

  3. Your customer can choose to tip 1 of these percentages, choose a custom tip percentage, or not leave a tip

  4. The total transaction amount of the sale plus any tip will be shown

  5. Your customer can hold their card or device against the machine to pay

  6. The payment will land in your Tide account within 3 business days

Share a receipt

Ask your customer to scan the QR code on the card reader once their payment has gone through.

Both digital and printed receipts are available, and both will show the cost plus any tip.

Make a refund

  1. Tap Sales > Activity > Settlements

  2. Select the payment and tap Refund This Payment

  3. A refund the full amount of the cost plus any tip will be processed within 14 business days

View your statement

In your app’s transaction timeline, you’ll see the total payment amount. When you open the transaction details, the tip is shown separately.

Cancelling your order

Generally, you can’t cancel an order once it’s been placed.

However, in case of delivery failures, such as items lost in transit or orders that remain undelivered for more than 30 days, you can choose between re-delivery or a refund.

There are no cancellation fees for orders that are cancelled due to delivery failure, such as items lost in transit or undelivered parcels.
