How to use Tap to Pay

  1. Open the Tide app on your smartphone. Go to the Get Paid tab followed by Tap to Pay and enter the payment amount.

  2. Present your smartphone to your customer

  3. Your customer holds their card horizontally, or their device at the top of your smartphone, over the contactless symbol

  4. When you see the Done tick, the card read is complete and the transaction is being processed. 

Privacy and security built in

  • Tap to Pay on iPhone uses Apple's built-in security and privacy features to protect both business and customer data. When a payment is processed, Apple doesn't store card numbers or PIN information on its servers, ensuring all data remains private and secure.

  • Tap to Pay on Android encrypts card information on your phone using NFC, meaning no card numbers or PINs are stored on your phone – keeping your data safe.

With Tap to Pay and your Tide app, you can accept in-person contactless payments with your smartphone — from physical debit and credit cards, to all digital wallets. You’ll need no additional devices. It’s easy, secure, and private.

For Tap to Pay on iPhone, the feature is currently available on iPhone XS or later or iOS 16.4 or above).

For Tap to Pay on Android, the feature is currently available on most Android devices, providing they have Android 9 or later. 

To sign up, go to the ‘Get Paid’ menu in your app > ‘Tap to Pay’ > Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions > ‘Sign Up for Tap to Pay’. 

As part of our efforts to prevent fraud and protect our members and community, there might be limitations about who can sign up for Tap to Pay. Access to this service may be limited due to factors like the nature of your business, or region of operation. For more information, please visit the Terms & Conditions page.

To collect a payment, open your Tide app on your smartphone > go to the ‘Get Paid’ menu > tap ‘Tap to Pay’. Enter the payment amount and description and tap ‘Take a payment’.

Then your customer will hold their card horizontally at the top of your smartphone, over the contactless symbol. When you see the “done” checkmark, the transaction is complete.

You can view your Tap to Pay transactions in the app. Go to the ‘Get Paid’ menu > ‘Settlements’ > ‘Settlements’ tab. But remember, Tap to Pay transactions cannot be processed offline.

You will receive your Tap to Pay payments within 3 business days.

You can refund Tap to Pay payments from the app. They will be processed in 5-7 business days.

As part of our promotional pricing, you will pay a fee of 1.50% for each Tap to Pay transaction. 

We will not charge you any initial or monthly fees for using Tap to Pay. This includes both domestic and international payments. 

Fees are subject to change but we’ll let you know in plenty of time.

With Tap to Pay you can accept payments in  GBP, EUR and USD.

The minimum transaction amount is £1, and the maximum is £5000.

Yes, Tap to Pay is secure and private. 

Tap to Pay uses the built-in security and privacy features of Apple and Android to help keep your business and customer data private and secure. 

When a payment is processed, Apple and Android don’t store card numbers or PIN information on devices or on their servers, so you can rest assured knowing your business stays yours.

Tap to Pay allows payment service providers to enable PIN-based transactions in iOS 16.0 and later.

After the customer taps their card, Tap to Pay prompts the customer to enter their PIN using Apple or Android’s secure PIN entry interface.

Payments made with digital wallets won’t require a PIN code authorisation.
