Can I make international payments?

What is a TIN? (Tax Identification Number)

A TIN is a unique combination of letters and/or numbers assigned by tax authorities to identify individuals and entities for tax purposes. You will normally find it on any letters or correspondence you receive from your tax authority (the relevant tax authority in the jurisdiction(s) in which you are a tax resident). Some authorities do not issue a TIN, however, they will often use a similar type of number which can be known by a different name e.g.:here

You can also receive international payments in EUR via SEPA.

  • Unique Tax Reference (UTR) in the UK;

  • Social Security Number (SSN) for individuals and the Employer Identification Number (EIN) for most entities in the US;

  • SIREN in France; or

  • NIP/PESEL in Poland.

The OECD website can be consulted for further details about the TIN or its equivalent.

Tap Share to share them with your customers in SEPA countries and receive payments from them.

We’ll convert any euros you receive into pounds and credit them to your primary GBP Tide bank account, minus a 1.50% FX markup. For paid plan members, the FX markup is 0.5%.

To learn more about SEPA, and how to use it to send or receive international payments, visit the dedicated FAQ page.

You can receive international payments in GBP via SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) too. To do this, you’ll need your SWIFT account details.

You can find these in the app by tapping the Accounts > Details next to your main account > SWIFT. Then tap Share to send your details to payors.

The fee for Inbound SWIFT payments in GBP depends on the Tide plan you're on:

  • Free - £1 for transactions of up to £100, and £5 for transactions of £100 and above

  • Smart - 25 free transactions, then same as the Free plan fee

  • Pro - Free

  • Max - Free

You can’t send payments via SWIFT but we will let you know if we make this possible in the future.
