This International Women’s Day, we recognise and celebrate the incredible achievements of women across industries. Here at Tide, we’re proud to support and spotlight the inspiring women in our community, who are building businesses, breaking barriers, and making an impact.

Today, we introduce you to Cuca, founder of Carlotta London. Cuca was inspired to create the hair accessory brand after noticing a pattern in herself – clipping her hair up whenever she needed to focus on work. Carlotta London was born from this introspection, and is built around the idea of accessories as a symbol of determination.

Hi Cuca, can you tell us what inspired you to start Carlotta London?

Hi! Carlotta London came from the realisation that throughout my life, I’ve clipped up my hair every time I started working towards a big goal. I wanted to create hair accessories that weren’t just high-quality and stylish, but also served as a reminder that confidence comes from within.

I knew I wasn’t reinventing the wheel – it was about building something that truly resonated with me and other women chasing their dreams, whatever they may be.

As a female entrepreneur, what challenges have you faced, and how have you overcome them?

I think my biggest challenge has mostly been myself – my own doubts, fears, and the pressure I put on myself to have everything figured out. It’s an ongoing journey, but I’ve learnt that confidence comes from action.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

Women in Spain and the UK weren’t legally allowed to open a bank account in their own name until 1975 – knowing that my mum wasn’t allowed to open a bank account when she was younger blows my mind, and shows how much things have changed. It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come, but also of the importance of continuing to push for real change.

I truly look up to women who believe in themselves and are determined to achieve their goals, no matter the challenges or area of life.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is ‘Accelerate Action.’ What actions do you think are needed to support women in business and entrepreneurship?

For those who haven’t taken the leap yet, I think visibility and representation are key.

For those who are already there, support comes in many forms: funding, mentorship, and growth opportunities.

How does Carlotta London empower women, whether that’s through your products, business practices, or community?

Carlotta’s mission is to empower, encourage, and inspire women to take that first step towards their dreams. If I can inspire even one woman to gather the courage to get started on whatever her goal is, I’d be extremely happy. This is Carlotta’s DNA, and I try to embed it in everything – from the messages I share on social media, to the handwritten notes I send in every parcel.

What’s more symbolic than a woman clipping up her hair when she’s about to take on something big? Dream big, clip up, make it happen.

Who are the women that inspire you, whether in business, fashion, or life?

My biggest inspiration is my grandma. She never had the chance to go to university and dedicated herself to raising six children. Despite the challenges, she had the courage to take risks and build businesses without any education or guidance, something unbelievable for a woman of her time.

How do you see the role of women evolving in the fashion industry, and what changes would you like to see?

It’s exciting to see how the industry is evolving to become more realistic, diverse, and inclusive. More and more brands and public figures are advocating for this, and that shift is so important.

There’s still a lot of work to do, but I believe we’re moving in the right direction, and I’d love to see even more representation at every level. A great example is Emma Grede, whose launch of Good American has set a new standard for inclusivity in fashion.

Lastly, what advice would you give to aspiring female entrepreneurs?

Start before you feel ready!
